Overview

Kaziranga National Park is one of the major wildlife tourist’s attractions in India. It is a world heritage site. Located in Golaghat District and partly in Nagaon District of Assam. It is the oldest park in assam covers an area of 430 Sq kms along the river Brahmaputra on the North and the Karbi Anglong hills on the South. The National Highway 37 passes through the park area and tea estates, hemmed by table top tea bushes. One can even see the rhinos and wild elephants straying near the highway.  the park hosts two thirds of the world’s Great One-horned rhinoceros. The park is home to large breeding populations of elephants, wild water buffalo and swamp deer.This Park opens to tourists on 1st November, 2015.
 
the history of Kaziranga takes us back in the year 1904 when the Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon along with his wife Mary Curzon went on an excursion to this region. To their matter of surprise they found no signs of rhinos in the concerned area which is known as the home to them and so she decided to put some serious efforts towards their conservation, sine poaching for their skin was on the heights during that time. It was in the year 1905, June 1st that Mary Curzon proposed the idea of converting Kaziranga into a reserve forest by extending the area into 232 sq km.
 
Kaziranga National Park is one of the last areas in eastern India undisturbed by a human presence. It is inhabited by the world's largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses, as well as many mammals, including tigers, elephants, panthers and bears, and thousands of birds.
 
One of the many attractions in the Kaziranga National Park is exploring the hidden mystery of the dense jungle on elephants that are steered by the professional Mahout. It is a special treat to the travelers to move in the open grounds on these majestic animals. The other available options to see the national park is on booked jeep safari. Kaziranga was declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO for its unique natural environment in the year of 1985. Apart from this, the park has been identified as an important bird area by Birdlife International Society as it is a home to various species of migrating and inhabitant birds. Situated on the banks of river Brahmaputra, the sanctuary is blessed with the four different kinds of vegetation. The Tropical moist mixed deciduous forests and tropical semi-evergreen forests is marked by the 41% of the tall grasses, 29% open jungle, 11% short grasses and rest is covered with the rivers and the water bodies. Its breathtaking array of flora and diverse fauna adds value to the scenic beauty of the park. 
 
The park is open from November to April. Tourists can take rides on elephants to move around the park or cruise in a boat on the Brahmaputra along the park.

How to Reach,
Road Way: If you wish to travel to Kaziranga by bus then first you have to reach Guwahati or Jorhat by rail or air and board the bus or cab to Kaziranga National Park.
 
Nearest Railways Station:Furkating (80 kms), Connected by trains form Guwahati. Gauahati is the nearest major railway station. 
 
Nearest Airport: Jorhat town which is 97 kilometers away from the Kaziranga.
