Laxminarayan Temple




Laxminarayan Temple is located on the Mandir Marg , in Delhi.It is a hindu temple dedicated to Laxminarayan. The temple is one of Delhi's major temples and a major tourist attraction. The temple is dedicated to Laxmi and Narayana.
The temple construction  started in year 1933 and was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi was made built by B. R. Birla and Vijay Tyagi from 1933 and 1939.  1939 on the condition that people of all castes will be allowed in temple. The side temples are dedicated to Shiva, Krishna and Buddha. The temple spread over 7.5 acres and is embellished with many shrines, large gardens and Gita Bhawan. The interiors of the temples are beautiful carvings depicting the scenes from mythology. Numerous Hindu symbols and quotes from the Gita and the Upanishads ornament the temple walls. The highest Shikara  in the temple soars to an altitude of 165 ft, while the ancillary one is about 116 ft. Facing east and standing on an elevated platform, Birla Mandir of Delhi also enshrines the holy Vedas.  The main temple houses statues of Lord Narayan and Hindu Goddess Lakshmi. There are other small shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha and Hanuman. There is also a shrine dedicated to Lord Buddha. The left side temple shikhar houses Devi Durga, the Hindu goddess of Shakti, the power. 
This is the first of a series of temples built by the Birlas in many cities of India, which are also often called Birla Temple.
