Overview

Akshardham Temple is  Located  at Akshardham Setu, New Delhi.  'Akshardham' means the divine abode of God. It is hailed as an eternal place of devotion, purity and peace. Swaminarayan Akshardham at New Delhi is a Mandir – an abode of God, a Hindu house of worship, and a spiritual and cultural campus dedicated to devotion, learning and harmony. Timeless Hindu spiritual messages, vibrant devotional traditions and ancient architecture all are echoed in its art and architecture.The mandir is a humble tribute to Bhagwan Swaminarayan (1781- 1830), the avatars, devas and great sages of Hinduism.  Akshardham Temple is 141-foot high, spans 316-foot wide, and extends 356-foot long. It is traditional architectural styles. Covering an area of over 8,000 square meters.
 
The temple, which attracts approximately 70 percent of all tourists who visit Delhi, was officially opened on 6 November 2005 by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. It sits near the banks of the Yamuna adjacent to the 2010 Commonwealth Games village in eastern New Delhi.The temple, at the center of the complex, was built according to the Vastu shastra and Pancharatra shastra.
 
WHAT TO SEE
MANDIR:
Made of pink stones and white marble, the main temple was built without the use of steel. Decorated with domes, carved pillars and 20,000 murtis.
 
AKSHARDHSAM MANDIR:
A traditional mandir (temple) dedicated to Bhagwan Swaminarayan that reflects the beauty and spirituality of India’s ancient art, culture, and architecture, 
 
WATER SHOW:
The Sahaj Anand Water Show calls the Yagnapurush Kund its home. An replica of grand traditional step-wells, it measures 300’ x 300’ and has 2,870 steps and 108 small shrines. The nine-lotus design of the central pool is a replication of a ritual yantra or arrangement used in sacred Hindu ceremonies. At the head of the step-well is the 27 feet tall bronze murti of Neelkanth Varni. He presides over the step-well inspiring determination, devotion and courage in all who catch his sight.
 
GARDEN OF INDIA:
This garden was sixty acres of lush lawns, gardens and exquisite bronze statues, honouring India's child heroes,  has lush manicured lawns, trees, and shrubs. The garden is lined with bronze sculptures of contributors to India's culture and history. These sculptures include children, women, national figures, freedom fighters, and warriors of India, including notable figures such as Mahatma Gandhi.
 
LOTUS GARDEN:
A lotus-shaped garden echoing spirituality as expressed by philosophers, scientists, and leaders throughout history.
 
BOAT RIDE:
Twelve-minute ride will be like a ride into 10,000 years of India’s heritage. From Vedic life to Takshashila and an era of ancient discoveries.
 
MUSICAL FOUNTAINS:
The musical fountain show is held in the evening and showcases the interdependency between God, nature and man.
