Overview

Nishkalank Mahadev Temple in Koliyak, Bhavnagar, Gujarat is full of wonders and awe. This temple is buried in the sea. On a strong tide day, everything that can be seen are the flag and a pillar. After the temple history goes back to Mahabaratha era. Pandavas killed all the Kuravas and won the battle. Pandavas were grief stricken in knowing that they have acquired sins to kill their own parents. In order to find redemption for their sins, Pandavas met with Lord Krishna. To remove the sins, Krishna hands over a black flag and a black cow. He asked the Pandavas to follow it, when the two cow and flag becomes white, they will be all pardoned. Krishna also advise them to do penance to Lord Shiva, after that. THE angst hit brothers followed the cow wherever he went and carried the flag. They walked for days and days, in different places, and the color does not change. Finally, when they arrived at the Koliyak Beach, both cow and the color of the flag turns to white. Pandavas have exalted. And all 5 brothers sat for deep penance, meditated on Lord Shiva.
 
Lord Shiva impressed by the brothers have shown up to lingam form for each brother. As they meditated, each lingam appeared at the front of each brother. In total, there have been 5 (Swayumbu) lingams which showed up on their own. Pandavas were delighted to see this and they bowed down to all the five lingams with great devotion. Lord Shiva here is known under the name of Nishkalan Mahadev. Nishkalank has many meaning they are clean, pure, innocent, to clean and to purify, etc. It is said that Pandavas established Nishkalank or Nakalank Mahadev on a Amavasai of Indians calendar month Bhadarva. The famous fair popularly known as Bhadarvi is maintained on the moon do night in months of Sharvan (August), as the Indian calendar. An idol of Lord Shiva has been created in a island, above the sea at approximately 3 km to the east of Koliyak. Each lingam has a Nandhi facing it. The lingams are distributed on a square platform. There is a pond called Pandavas pond and fervent first wash the hands and legs, and it is only then that they visit the Lord Shivas sanctuaries.
 
 
Now the island is under high tide. It is one of the few temples rare. The sea withdrew all days, paving way for the followers to offer their prayers. This temple is located in the middle of the sea, and the devout young and old, walk all the way to achieve this temple. The water just around the temple open the track, and it is a rare spectacle. And after 7 h, the temple is still covered by the fierce tide.
 
The aficionados crowd this temple during Amavasai (no moon day), it is to be noted here that the tides are very active during the full moon day and no moon day, yet fervent patiently wait for the tide to retrieve. There is a strong belief that when loved ones are cremated their ashes are immersed in these waters and, in doing so, it acquires the salvation or moksha. Besides ash, curdled milk, whole and coconuts are offered to the Lord here. The temple festival is initiated by hoisting the flag by the clans of the Maharaja of Bhavnagar. This indicator is of 364 days and is only changed during the next festival temple. And for the records, the flag has never fallen or washed away by the tides. It is not disturbed by the fierce tides and has seen the most deadly earthquake which has killed more than 50,000 people in 2001.
 
It is a wonder of beauty. The followers of the cult not many temples that are buried under the sea. However, this temple stands as an exception. Please visit this temple at least in the life of the experience of spirituality that resonates with this temple!
