Overview

Nazarbaug Palace is located near Mandvi Gate, Baroda.  Nazar B?gh Palace was the Gaekwad's royal palace. Nazarb?gh Palace' was built in 1721.It had three storeys and is the oldest palace in Baroda. It was constructed by Malh?r R?o Gaekwad in the late 19th century. It had solid gold and silver guns, each barrel weighing over 100 kg. In the grounds it also has contains the Shïsh Mahal, a Palace of Glass.The Palace had a classic look, so in Gujarati it was told about its look as 'Nazar na laage' from which it was named Nazar. The Palace also had beautiful garden from which its name included baug. So it was named as Nazarbaug Palace.
 
Built in pure Italian renaissance style of mid-19th century, the palace used to host royal weddings. The royal family used to store its jewellery and weapons apart from skins of tigers hunted by the royalty in the palace. The interiors of Nazarbaug Palace were done in Italian marble and gold leaf decorated walls and ceilings which are found in all such state houses of the royalties or aristocrats in Europe. The palace had an exquisite garden after which the palace is named.The palace had a large white painting of structural canopy in the east and it had a wooden bridge that was connected to another palace Sarkarwada. It was later abandoned and used only for ceremonial purposes or hosting state guests. The palace's ownership was recently transferred to Pratapsinhrao after the royal Gaekwad family members ended their two-and-half decade-old property dispute.
 
The Palace was Home to Jewels of the Gaekwad Family. In Year 1927, the Collection of Jewellery was believed to be $10,000,000 which included a Diamond Necklace which carried both Star of the South  and English Dreden, an important part of Collection was a cloth embroided with precious stones and seed pearls, which was made to cover to Tomb of Muhammad.The Palace had a classic look, so in Gujarati it was told about its look as ‘Nazar na laage’ from which it was named Nazar. The Palace also had beautiful garden from which its name included baug. So it was named as Nazarbaug Palace.
