Jamia Masjid  is situated at Nowhatta, in the middle of the old city, the Biggest Mosque in Kashmir, is known as one of the sacred shrines of Islamic followers. Be it the holiness or the constructional elegance, Jamia Masjid is quite unparalleled in every aspect. Comprised of 370 pillars of wood, Jamia Masjid symbolizes one of the best architectural specimen which survived the ravages of time ever since it was constructed in the valley of Jammu & Kashmir. Beautiful Indo-Saracenic architecture, a magnificent courtyard and 370 wooden pillars. Another feature of the mosque is the peace and tranquility inside it, standing out against the hustle of the old bazaars around it. Thousands of Muslims assemble at the mosque every Friday to offer their prayers. 
 
 It was built by Sultan Sikandar shah kashmiri shahmiri in 1394 AD Later, the son of Sultan Sikandar, Zain-ul-Abidin got the mosque extended the masurement of masjid is 381 ft by 384 ft built in area of 1,46,000 sqf . Jama masjid is surrounded by green luscious gardens and lanes to make it look elegant.About 1 lakh people are seen offering prayers at this mosque during peak hours.Tourists throng the place throughout the year.
 
The reddish building and the green garden stand in beautiful contrast and have a very calm and serene atmosphere to them. This mosque has a fountain at the entrance and it is built in a square shape. A green park surrounding the main shrine adds to the beauty of this mosque. The four cornered minars, pyramidal roofs and pinnacles add to the spectacular view of Jamia Masjid mosque in Kashmir.

Private Coaches and taxis are available from Jammu Tawai to Srinagar, which is being linked to the other cities by National Highway 1A (NH 1A). The Jammu & Kashmir State Transport Corporation (J&KSTC) provides comfortable buses from Jammu for other cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore etc as well as intercity. The Jammu Srinagar Road buses moves through majestic mountain areas and stretched out fields lined with trees on both sides.
