The name of the temple is derived from the amount spent in its construction, which was donated by Rani Charushila, a queen of Pathuria Ghat royal family, Kolkata. Making the total cost of around nine lakh rupees, the temple received its name as Naulakha.
The temple was constructed on the advice of Balananda Brahmachari, a saint whose idol is also enshrined in the temple.
