Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga also has its own history and stories.Three of them are prominent. The first story is on Parvat Vindhya (Mount).  It was once Narada (sons of Lord Brahma), known for its non-stop Vindhya cosmic trip, visit parvat. In its own way Narad Vindhya spicy Parvat said about the greatness of the Mount Meru. This fact Vindhya jealous of Meru and he has decided to be greater than the access point Meru. Vindhya began the worship of Lord Shiva to become more of Meru. Parvat Vindhya practice and worshipped parthivlinga severe penance (a linga manufactured from physical hardware) with Lord Omkareshwar for nearly six months. Accordingly the Lord Shiva was pleased and blessed him with his desire Boon. On the request of all the gods and sages Lord Shiva made two parts of the lingas. The half is called Mamaleshwar Omkareshwara and the other or Amareshwar. Lord Shiva gave the blessing of the growth, but has been a promise that Vindhya will never be a problem to Shiva's devotees. Vindhya has started to grow, but has not kept its promise. She even obstructed the sun and the moon. All the deities approach for help. Sage Agastya Agastya with his wife is arrival to Vindhya and to convince them that he would not grow until the wise and his wife are returned. They are never income Vindhya and is it as it was when they left. The sage and his wife remained to Srisailam which is regarded as Dakshina Kashi and one of Dwadash Jyotirlinga.

The second story concerns Mandhata of the son and his penance. King Mandhata Ishvaku clan (an ancestor of Lord Ram) worshipped Lord Shiva here until the Lord is manifested as a Jyotirlinga. Some researchers also Mandhata the story about telling his son-Mucchkund Ambarish and, who had practice a serious penance and adopted here and pleased Lord Shiva. Because of this mountain is named Mandhata.

The third floor of sacred texts Hindus said that he was once a great war between devas and Danavas(Daemon), in which Danavas won. This has been a major setback for devas and therefore devas prayed to God Shiva. Pleased with their prayer, Lord Shiva emerged in the form of Danavas Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga and defeated.
