Overview

Gupteswar Cave situated in the cave inside the forest of Ramagiri Hills. It is a famous pilgrimage place of Koraput Dist. which is about 45 Km. away from Jeypore, of Southern Orissa. Most interesting and renowned one is that the lingam was found out by the King of Jeypore in the year 1665. Since then it has been worshipped by the tribes. One can find other caves also apart from the main cave of Gupteswar.  Original name (with diacritics) of the place is Koraput.
 
Surrounded by a dense forest of sal trees and flanked by the Kolab river, a 2m high lingam stands in the cave. The shrine is called "Gupteswar" which means the "Hidden God". It is so named because it was lying hidden in the cave for a very long period. One can reach it by climbing the 200 steps flanked with rows of champak trees. The entrance of the cave is about 3 m wide and 2 m in height. There are also several other caves nearby. Inside the second cave there is a large stalactite. People worship it as the udder of God Kamadhenu (the divine cow) and wait under it with outstretched palms to collect drops of water which fall only at long intervals.
 
This is one of the famous Shiva temple ofThe main attraction of the place is the Holy shrine cave of Lord Gupteswar. One has to climb some steps to reach at the entrance of the cave. The steps towards the cave is filled with beggers and trees at the both side of it. The entrance of the cave is very narrow. One has to be very careful while entering into the cave. There are maximum chances of possible  Entrance into cave accident. Despite of the lighting facilities, still dark out here inside the cave. Inside the cave, there exists the famous holy Lingam of Lord Gupteswar. This temple is located inside a cave. The Shiva Linga is a natural one exists from old ages. As this Shiva Linga is located inside a cave and it was not accessible easily in old days so it is known as Gupteswar or hidden Shiva temple. After Darshan of Lord Shiva there is a way by the side to visit further inside the cave. This area is inside deep forest and there is no facility to stay here, the only tourist rest house of Orissa tourism is not in operation. 
 
Carry a powerful torch light with you. It is better if each member of your team carry one torch light. There are local kids who can show you different formations at a cost of Rs 10/-. This cave is quite long and you need to have expert guide to venture further inside the cave.
 
Surrounded with dense forest having rare big Sal trees and Saberi river makes the place even more interesting. 
 
The journey from Koraput to Gupteswar is quite enjoyable. Both side of the road is full of forests with big trees. One can experience lot of monkeys on the way, but trust they never do any harm or attack of the travelers. Journey on the u-turn roads of the hills is always a special experience for anyone. 
 
From the parking area there are nearly 170 steps to be climbed to reach the entrance of the cave.
 
Important Festival,
During Shivaratri festival devotes from local areas and from Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh visit Siva temple and during these festival many shops open their temporary outlets.
 
How to Reach,
National Highway touches both Koraput and Jeypore, hence reaching the place Gupteswar is not at all difficult. One can reach here by bus via Baipariguda, a marketing place. Baipariguda is just 30 km away from Gupteswar.
There is no direct public transport available to reach Gupteshwar, you have to hair a vehicle from Jeypore or from nearby places.
