Overview

Valley of Flowers National Park is Situated near Badrinath, in the state of Uttrakhand in India. It is at a height of 11000 feet to 14000 feet above sea level in western Himalayas. Geographically it is only 6 kilometers from Badrinath Valley of Flower 87 square kilometers in the Chamoli District of Uttarakhand,  set in the backdrop of the majestic Zanskar Ranges.Valley of Flowers is located 300 Kms North of Rishikesh, near Badrinath. You need to Travel by Road till Govindghat and from there the trek to Valley of Flowers starts. Govindghat is 20 Kms before Badrinath. Till Govidghat there is a motor-able Road. Rishiksh is 6 Hours Drive from New Delhi, India.
 
Valley of Flowers is a vibrant and splendid national park reposing in West Himalayas. Nestled in Uttarakhand, this alluring place is famous for its charming meadows of alpine flowers. Endowed with a diverse range of endemic flora, it is picturesque in its beauty. This lush region is also home to some rare and endangered animal species. You may spot animals like Asiatic black deer, snow leopard, musk deer, red fox, brown bear and blue sheep. High in the lofty Himalayas of the Garhwal region sprawls this enchanting valley. Legends believe it to be the place from where Hanuman had collected the Sanjeevani buti for curing Lakshmana. This place has floral pastures, running streams and beautiful backdrop of the mountains.
 
 Valley of Flowers comes into full bloom by 15th July and you will see maximum number of flowers from 15th July to 15th August. By maximum number in terms of quantity and variety. Valley of Flowers changes its shades almost everyday. For much of the year it is snow clad and remains grayish and white color. In the month of July the valley becomes lush green in color and every week its shade changes according to the flowers. Main flowers which blooms in the month of July includes Blue Poppy, Geranium, Campanula, Phlomis Bracteosa, Polemonium Caeruleum, Anemones, Aster Albescens, Potentillas, Thymus Linearis, Dactylorhiza Hathageri, Epilobium Latifolium and Bistorta.
 
In the year 1931 a British mountaineer Frank S. Smythe along with six other mountaineer climbed Kamet. Kamet is a mountain 25447 feet and situated in Uttrakhand. After successful climbing they descended towards Bhundar Pass on that day it was wet and very cold. Below 600 feet it was raining and above that it was sleet or snow they lost the route due to dense mist around them. Suddenly R. L. Holdsworth and botanist and a climbing member of the expedition exclaimed “Look !”, as Frank S. Smythe followed the direction he saw a little splash of blue and beyond it were other splashes of blue a blue so intense that it seemed to light the hill side.  A world heritage site, the valley is situated at a very remarkable area, which is the conversion point of Himalayan ranges, Zanskar and Western and Eastern Himalayas. This fairyland located in the high altitudes of Himalayas is protected by snowy mountains. Bounded by the magnificent mountain ranges and glittering glaciers, this place unfolds the charisma and charm of nature at its best.
 
Rare Flora, Ranunculus, Pedicularis, MarshMarigold, Rhododendrons, Brahmakamal, Corydalis, Bistorta, Epilobium, Nomocharis, Oxypetala, Daisy, Sibbaldia, Anaphalis, Cypripedium Strawberry, Arisaema Costatum, Himalayan blue Poppy, Dianthus, Calendula, Yellow Anemones, Lilium.

Valley of Flowers Timing:
 opens on 1st June and closes on 4th October every year
Valley of flowers opens at 7.00 am every day and last entry is allowed till 2.00 pm. You need to get out of the valley by 5 pm. You should be at the entry gate at 6.45 so as to take your entry ticket sooner and enter by 7.00 am. You should start back by 1.30pm so as to reach back by 5.00 pm.
 
Best time to visit Valley of Flowers:July to October.
 
Entry Fee for Valley of Flowers,
Like entry fee for most of other tourist places in India the entry fee is separate for Indian nationals and foreigners. Entry fee for Valley of Flowers is Rs. 150 for Indian Nationals and Rs. 600 (US$ 10 Approx) for foreigners. This entry ticket is valid for 3 days for any extra day Indians need to pay Rs. 50 whereas foreigners need to pay Rs. 250. To take a professional video camera inside the valley Indians need to pay Rs. 500 and for foreigners it is Rs. 1500 for a day.
